Tips for a family trip to Devon

The West Country is always a perfect place to take the family! Last October, we visited a gorgeous little place called Ilfracombe in Devon. We stayed for just under a week, and the kids absolutely loved it! Here are our top tips for a visit down to the beautiful Devonshire coast with the kids

1. Get your accommodation right!

We stayed in a lovely independent park called Ilfracombe Holiday Park, we had our own self-contained space, but the best bit was the entertainment! Along with the pool available on site, they had great evening entertainment including dance parties and a quiz for the grown ups (which we won by-the-way!)

Sadly I had to work on one of the days we were there, but thankfully we had a great wifi connection in the apartment, so I was able to do what I needed to do at work and then quickly get back to fun and games with the kids!

2. Head to Watermouth Castle

All I can say is wow! We are a family that DOES theme parks! We weren’t expecting this to be as good as it was for an independent theme park, but it was actually brilliant, so family-friendly (including for our then 7 month old baby), and all of the kids had a great time. We travelled with friends and so had 4 children there between us, aged between 0-11!

The scenery around the whole castle was beautiful too. Just look at where the castle is situated! What gorgeous views!

and the view out to the sea!

Another thing we really loved here was the science experiments as we went along the route! There is a really cool water vortex, and a bunch of sound experiments that all of the family can join in with.

3. Visit the Devonshire coast

In North Devon, a visit to the coast on a clear day means you can see the beautiful Welsh coastline! It’s definitely worth a stop, and you can grab an ice cream while you’re there. It’s never too cold for ice cream, is it?

There’s also the amazing Verity statue created by Damien Hirst on Ilfracombe Harbour (EX34 9EQ for your satnav!)

All in all there is so much for the kids to see and do down in beautiful Devon! I hope you’ve enjoyed us sharing our small part of the experience with you!

Where should we head to next?
